Finding the right environment is absolutely crucial for reaching your fitness goals. It doesn't matter if you want to lose a few pounds, build muscle, or just feel better. The place where you spend your time shapes you. It's not just about where you work out; it's about the people and the atmosphere that surround you—an atmosphere that must inspire you. Finding the right place is like finding the right catalyst for your transformation.

Finding the right place is like finding the right catalyst for your transformation.

I was lucky enough to be a member of Gold’s Gym in Venice, California for 15 years. I always chose an environment that challenged me and pushed me forward. This gym wasn't the cleanest and didn't have the latest high-tech equipment, but something much more important was there. It was filled with incredibly fit people, athletes, the best bodybuilders in the world, and top-tier trainers. Seeing these people push themselves every day, lifting the weights they did and approaching their training with such discipline, simply changes your perspective. You don't even have to talk to them; just being in the same space is a form of training.

Gold’s Gym in Venice is nicknamed the "Mecca of Bodybuilding," and when you walk in, you immediately feel the inspiration radiating from it. The environment shapes you physically and mentally. Being in a place like this is a challenge that automatically pushes you forward. The people there were always friendly and willing to help because those who are truly disciplined and in shape know that everyone starts somewhere. No one will judge you for being out of shape. They will usually be happy to help if you ask a question.

Find Communities That Support You


Look for a place where people "look the part"—meaning they are dedicated and have goals. CrossFit, Boot Camps, and cross-training gyms are great because they form communities of like-minded people. In clubs like these, "tribes" are built, where members support and educate each other. They give you a physical and mental challenge and teach you about your body. This is the perfect way to leave your comfort zone, where nothing ever changes. When you wake up in the morning and know your "tribe" and a trainer with a plan are waiting for you at the gym, your chances of success skyrocket.


Online Coaching: A Modern Environment for Your Growth


If a traditional gym isn't for you, today you have a great option in the form of online fitness and nutrition coaching. Online trainers have the advantage of being in daily contact with you. They can track your progress, challenge you through online videos, and most importantly, hold you accountable for your goals every single day. You don't have to go anywhere, yet you are still part of a community that pushes you forward. Regular check-ins, sharing progress, and group chats will help you maintain discipline.

Benefits of Virtual Fitness Communities

Virtual fitness communities provide a platform for shared experiences and support. These communities allow members to share progress, challenges, and accomplishments, fostering a sense of belonging. They create an environment where everyone is working towards similar goals.

Avoid Places That Drain Your Motivation

Just as inspiring places exist, so do places where you'll stay stuck. As we say in the Czech Republic, "Vrána k vráně sedá," which means "Birds of a feather flock together." If you spend time in an environment where people are out of shape, you will never get the inspiration and drive you need to achieve your goals. This also applies to group classes that are just for "fun" and don't produce results. These are just places where people pretend to work out but aren't moving forward. Classes that don't challenge you are comparable to going to a nightclub—it's fun, but it doesn't move you forward. Why pay to be entertained when you can pay to be transformed?.


Remember that you'll get better results in an environment that challenges you and holds you accountable, not one that keeps you in your comfort zone. The potential is in all of us, but only the right environment will help you unlock it.
